What are you
going to learn
in this course?

Culture, technology, and a visual history.

We’ll start the course by analyzing how technology and culture influence visual language—and what we find interesting and beautiful. We’ll also explore the evolution of this narrative and where we are today. As a practical exercise, students will do a quick activity focused on the history of posters.

Typography and its principles.

Understanding how typefaces relate to each other and contribute to composition is essential—typography is a core element of visual design. In this module, we’ll learn the fundamentals of typographic use, aligned with each project’s strategy. Students will also have time for a hands-on typography activity.

Image, shape, and color.

Next, we’ll explore other key components of visual composition, which, alongside typography, form the foundation of a design. The instructor will use an AI image generator to help demonstrate some of the content in this module and will assign a practical exercise for the class to experiment with these elements.

Hierarchy, layout, and creation.

In this module, we’ll understand how a full composition is created by thoughtfully combining and organizing its basic elements. The instructor will introduce important concepts of visual hierarchy and layout, and students will use these ideas to create a more complete project that incorporates everything learned throughout the course.

Critique and presentation.

At the end of the course, we’ll hold a presentation and feedback session—both from the instructor and fellow students—on the projects created during the course. In addition to creating, learning to observe and understanding intention and strengths in design work is key to growing as a designer and creative. This final session will also be an open space for discussion and questions.
