Deconstructing brands

What makes a brand truly effective? In this topic, we'll delve beyond surface-level considerations such as colors and fonts and explore the deeper strategies that drive successful branding. Through case studies and hands-on exercises, we'll examine how to use branding to establish a robust foundation for your design framework. You'll learn to identify a brand's core values and mission, leveraging that understanding to create designs that are not only visually compelling but also strategically effective.

What is a framework?

Explore the principles of a design framework. We'll discuss what a framework is and what it isn't, delving into key concepts such as a conceptual story or metaphor, a mental model for organizing the entire user experience, and a navigational system that guides users through the design.

Concepting a framework

In this topic, we'll explore the art of concepting – the process of generating and refining ideas for your design framework. We'll discuss hypothesis generation, exploring all possible answers and ideas for your project. From there, we'll delve into how a brand can effectively integrate into a digital environment and what it takes to make a framework truly stand out. Through a wide range of exercises, we'll explore a spectrum of solutions – from standard to innovative and even 'crazy' ideas.

Make it real

Transform your design ideas— even the craziest ones— into viable systems that can be effectively developed and implemented by your team. We'll discuss the importance of filtering your ideas and keeping your focus grounded in reality, even as you explore innovative concepts. Through a series of exercises, we'll explore how to develop a design system taking into account the constraints of time, budget, and available resources. You'll learn how to work effectively with developers and other team members to create a system that is both technically feasible and user-friendly.
